Medical & Dental Subcommittee

The medical and dental subcommittee is comprised of doctors and dentists who are involved in treating patients with sleep disorders.

There is a steering committee comprised of a wide range of specialties including General Practitioners, Neurologists, Physicians, Ear Nose & Throat (ENT) surgeons and Specialist Dentists.

More specialties are needed to round out the expertise as sleep medicine is important for every specialty.  Our role is to provide guidance to doctors, medical insurance companies and the public on various issues to do with better access, better information and standards in sleep medicine.

We create guidelines to guide best practice as well as run courses to educate everyone involved in sleep medicine on topics such as obstructive sleep apnea and insomnia.  A secondary goal is to guide research into the clinical aspects of sleep medicine in South Africa to improve our evidence base on epidemiology and treatment outcomes for various sleep disorders.
